Friday 17 May is International Pinot Gris Day! We will be celebrating with a very special wine and cheese pairing so come and join us.
Chief Cheesemaker Simon has lined up an award-winning Cranky Goat cheese to pair with our lineup of Marlborough Pinot Gris selected by Chief winemaker Marcus. You can taste all our Reserve wines that day too.
Make an occasion of it and bring your friends and family!
If you’re still peckish, you can ‘build your own platter’ with more Cranky Goat cheeses, cured meats and pates and if the sun is out, enjoy our lovely courtyard with views of our famous hills.
For the diary: May also celebrates two other popular New Zealand varieties. Come and join us for Sauvignon Blanc Day on Friday 3 May and Chardonnay Day on Thursday 23 May as well.
Join us between 10am to 4.30pm.
Bookings for the wine and cheese pairing recommended - ph: 03 578 7674.
A few Pinot Gris factoids from our friends at NZ Winegrowers to get you in the mood:
New Zealand Pinot Gris is fresh and full-flavoured, with notes of apple, pear, honeysuckle, spice and bread.
It is more akin to Alsace in style than the drier Pinot Grigio.
Grown throughout the country, the warmer North Island climate tends to create ripe, fat, oily styles whilst the cooler South Island produces tighter wines with great structure.
Barrel ageing, fermenting with native, wild yeasts, and lees stirring are common winemaking practices in New Zealand to build texture, mouthfeel and complexity.
Breaking on to the New Zealand scene in the early 1990s, Pinot Gris has enjoyed a dramatic rise to fame and is now NZ’s third most popular white variety!
See you on Pinot Gris Day!
