Outline of workshop:
WWW-Who-Where-Why (reasons for the fight and logistics of the fight)
Basic safety for stage combat (planning, slow motion rehearsal, out of distance, off-line, angles to the audience, NO improvising, NO “just do it!”)
Acting aggression and pained reactions
Warm-up
Stretches
Right & left hook punches
Blocking punches
Ducking punches
Stomach punch and reaction
Slapping (several non-contact methods)
Kicks (front, side)
Hair, nose & ear pulling; head butts; strangling; karate chops-safe techniques for these actions
Carrying and dragging an unconscious or dead person
Front, side and back fall techniques for falls, fainting, slips and trips
Prepare and perform a basic 1 – 3 move fight scene

Special equipment needed
• It is recommended (but not required) that participants wear face masks.
• As this is an unarmed stage combat workshop, no prop weapons are required.
• All participants will need to bring water bottles and any snack food they require (there will be a couple of short breaks throughout the workshop).
• All participants will need to sign an agreement form.
Brief CV for Peter Hassall
Peter has choreographed fights for 70+ plays and live shows since 1979. He has worked as a fight performer, fight choreographer and stunt double for film and TV productions since 1981.
Live work includes assisting Adrian Paul (Highlander TV series) with a charity sword-fighting workshop, sword-fighting workshop for a Lord of the Rings tour group led by actress Patricia Tallman (Babylon 5), western-themed stunt shows at Auckland's Museum of Transport & Technology, plus stunts and fight choreography for Royal New Zealand Ballet, NZ Opera, Summer Shakespeare, etc.
Peter has run 80+ stage combat workshops (basic, intermediate and advanced level) of many types e.g. unarmed, sword, sword and shield, gun and knife fighting/disarms, found weapons, use of soft prop weapons, etc.
He is experienced at all types of stage combat – both unarmed and armed – including the use of rapiers, medieval sword, staff and other weapons
Peter has an extensive range of prop weapons (daggers, knives, swords, crowbars, hammers, sledgehammers, axes, etc.) that he uses for workshops and rents to stage productions, live shows, short films and low budget films.
He is a member of the Stunt Guild of New Zealand
